How to update Google Analytics measurement id in Blogger?

To update your Google Analytics Measurement ID in Blogger, follow these steps:

Step 1: Get the Measurement ID from Google Analytics

  1. Go to your Google Analytics account at analytics.google.com.
  2. Select the property associated with your Blogger site (or create a new property if you don’t have one).
  3. Go to Admin (gear icon at the bottom left).
  4. Under Property, select Data Streams and click on your website’s data stream.
  5. Copy the Measurement ID that starts with "G-" (e.g., G-XXXXXXXXXX).

Step 2: Update the Measurement ID in Blogger

  1. Log in to your Blogger dashboard at www.blogger.com.
  2. Select the blog where you want to add or update the Measurement ID.
  3. Go to Settings in the left sidebar.
  4. Scroll down to the Google Analytics Property ID section.
  5. Paste your Measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX) into the field provided.
  6. Click Save to apply the changes.

Step 3: Verify the Update

  1. Return to Google Analytics and go to Realtime under Reports.
  2. Visit your Blogger site and navigate through a few pages.
  3. Check if your visit shows up in the Realtime report to confirm that the tracking is active.

Google Analytics has traditionally used "UA-" IDs (Universal Analytics) for tracking. However, Google introduced Google Analytics 4 (GA4), which uses Measurement IDs starting with "G-" instead of "UA-". Here’s a breakdown to help clarify:

  1. Universal Analytics (UA):
    • Tracking ID: Starts with "UA-" (e.g., UA-XXXXXXXX-1).
    • Universal Analytics properties are the older version of Google Analytics, and many sites still use them.
  2. Google Analytics 4 (GA4):
    • Measurement ID: Starts with "G-" (e.g., G-XXXXXXXXXX).
    • GA4 is the latest version of Google Analytics and focuses on event-based tracking, providing more detailed and customizable insights.

How to Check Which Type of Property You Have

To find out if you’re using Universal Analytics (UA) or GA4:

  1. Go to Google Analytics and log in.
  2. In Admin (the gear icon in the bottom-left), look at your Property Settings.
    • If it’s Universal Analytics, you’ll see the UA-XXXXXXXX-1 format.
    • If it’s GA4, you’ll see a Measurement ID starting with "G-".

How to Add Either ID to Blogger

Depending on which version you’re using, here’s how to add it in Blogger:

For Universal Analytics (UA) - "UA-" ID

  1. Log in to Blogger and go to the blog where you want to add the Tracking ID.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Find the Google Analytics Property ID section.
  4. Paste your UA-XXXXXXXX-1 Tracking ID into this field.
  5. Click Save.

For Google Analytics 4 (GA4) - "G-" ID

  1. Follow the same steps as above but paste the G-XXXXXXXXXX Measurement ID into the Google Analytics Property ID field.
  2. Click Save.

Either way, Blogger supports both UA and GA4 IDs, so you can choose based on your Analytics property type.

That's it! Your Blogger site should now be successfully linked to your Google Analytics Measurement ID, and you can start tracking data.
